IELTS TOEFL Duolingo Score Converter

This English test score converter shows what a score on one English proficiency test is roughly worth on the others. Pick the test you took — IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT on the new 1–6 band scale or the 0–120 scale, the Duolingo English Test (DET) or PTE Academic — enter your overall score, and it returns the equivalent IELTS band, TOEFL score on both scales, DET score, PTE range and CEFR level.

It helps international students checking whether a score meets a university’s requirement on a different test, and admissions staff setting comparable minimums across tests. Every mapping comes from a test owner’s published concordance: ETS’s 2026 comparison between IELTS and the TOEFL 1–6 scale and its 1–6 to 0–120 mapping, Duolingo’s DET–IELTS and DET–TOEFL tables, and Pearson’s July 2025 PTE–IELTS study.

Concordances link group-level score distributions, so they are guides rather than exact exchange rates, and individual universities may set their own equivalents. Where tests are linked through IELTS, the calculator uses the lowest IELTS band consistent with your score, which errs on the side of not overstating it.

IELTS acts as the common reference. ETS’s 2026 Table B1 gives the TOEFL iBT 1–6 overall band for each IELTS band (rounded up so TOEFL equivalents do not overstate ability), and its Table 6 gives the 0–120 range behind each band. Duolingo’s concordance maps each DET score (in steps of 5) to an IELTS band and a TOEFL 0–120 range, and Pearson’s 2025 study gives the PTE Academic range for each IELTS band.

When you enter a DET score the TOEFL 0–120 range comes straight from Duolingo’s table, and a TOEFL 0–120 score maps directly to a DET score. Other conversions pass through the lowest IELTS band consistent with your score. CEFR levels come from the TOEFL 1–6 band for TOEFL scores, from Duolingo’s table for DET scores, and from IELTS’s CEFR mapping otherwise.
