About the JEE Main Percentile to Rank Calculator

This JEE Main percentile to rank calculator estimates your Common Rank List (CRL) position from the NTA score (percentile) on your JEE (Main) scorecard. Because NTA defines the percentile as the share of candidates scoring equal to or less than you, the number of candidates ahead of you is roughly (100 − percentile) % of everyone who appeared — the calculator does that arithmetic with the official 2026 candidate count by default.

It is useful for students planning JoSAA counselling choices, checking whether they cross the JEE (Advanced) eligibility cut-off, or comparing ranks across years by changing the number of candidates. It also gives a rough category rank by scaling your CRL estimate by your category’s share of candidates, and shows the 2026 category-wise cut-off for JEE (Advanced).

The 2026 defaults come from NTA’s result press release: 15,38,468 unique candidates appeared for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) across both sessions. Official ranks also depend on tie-breaking rules and on the best of your two session scores, so treat the result as an estimate rather than your official CRL rank.

With the default inputs, the estimated all-india rank (crl) is 23,078. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

How to use the jee main percentile to rank calculator

  1. 1Enter the total NTA score (percentile) from your scorecard.
  2. 2Keep the 2026 candidate count or enter the figure for another year.
  3. 3Choose your category for the rough category rank and cut-off check.
  4. 4Read your estimated CRL rank and whether you clear the JEE (Advanced) cut-off.
  5. 5Use the lookup table to see the rank at nearby percentiles.

Formula and method

Rank ≈ floor((100 − P) ÷ 100 × N) + 1; Category rank ≈ (Rank − 1) × (category candidates ÷ all candidates) + 1

NTA’s percentile is 100 × (number of candidates with a raw score equal to or less than yours) ÷ (number who appeared), computed shift by shift to 7 decimal places to normalise for paper difficulty. Turning that around, about (100 − P) % of candidates scored higher than you, so your rank is that number plus one. With 15,38,468 candidates, 1 percentile point equals roughly 15,385 ranks.

The category rank is a simple proportional estimate using each category’s share of the 2026 candidates. Score distributions differ between categories, so actual category ranks — published by NTA with the CRL — can be noticeably different. Ties and the best-of-two-sessions rule also move official ranks slightly.

Worked examples

98.5 percentile, General category (2026)

1.5% of 15,38,468 candidates is 23,077.02, so about 23,077 scored higher and the estimated CRL rank is 23,078. General candidates were 34.99% of those who appeared, giving a rough category rank of about 8,075.

90 percentile, OBC-NCL

10% of 15,38,468 is 1,53,846.8, so the CRL estimate is 1,53,847. That clears the 2026 OBC-NCL cut-off of 80.9232583 for JEE (Advanced); the proportional OBC rank estimate is about 61,196.

60 percentile, SC

40% of the candidates — about 6,15,387 — scored higher, so the CRL estimate is 6,15,388. A 60 percentile is below the 2026 SC cut-off of 63.9172792, so it would not qualify for JEE (Advanced).

Frequently asked questions

How is JEE Main percentile calculated?+

NTA calculates it shift by shift as 100 × (candidates in your shift with a raw score equal to or less than yours) ÷ (candidates who appeared in that shift), to 7 decimal places. The topper of every shift gets 100.

How do I convert JEE Main percentile to rank?+

Multiply (100 − percentile) by the number of candidates and divide by 100 to get the number ahead of you, then add one. With about 15.38 lakh candidates in 2026, a 99 percentile is roughly rank 15,385.

How many candidates appeared in JEE Main 2026?+

NTA reported 15,38,468 unique candidates who appeared for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) across the January and April sessions, out of 16,04,854 registered.

What was the JEE Advanced 2026 cut-off?+

The NTA score cut-offs were 93.4123549 for UR, 82.4164528 for GEN-EWS, 80.9232583 for OBC-NCL, 63.9172792 for SC and 52.0174712 for ST, with 0.0023186 for UR-PwBD.

Is percentile the same as percentage of marks?+

No. Percentile shows how many candidates scored at or below you, not the share of the 300 marks you earned. A paper with low average marks can give a high percentile for a modest raw score.

Why might my official rank differ from this estimate?+

Official ranks use your best NTA score across both sessions, tie-breaking rules on subject scores and wrong answers, and the exact candidate distribution. The estimate assumes candidates are spread evenly around your percentile.
