About the Whatnot Fee Calculator

This Whatnot fee calculator works out exactly what Whatnot deducts from a sale and what lands in your payout. Choose the category of the show or listing and the sales tier you have unlocked, enter the sale price, buyer-paid shipping and sales tax, and it calculates the commission, the payment processing fee, your payout and your profit after the cost of the item.

It is built for live sellers of trading cards, sports cards, sneakers and streetwear, coins and other collectibles who want to price auctions and buy-it-now listings with their real margins in mind, or reconcile an order against Seller Hub.

Rates follow Whatnot’s US rate card that took effect on September 21, 2026. Commission is charged on the item sale price only and falls as your total sales over a four-week period rise, from 8% (4% for Coins) at the Standard tier down to as low as 3.5%–6.5% depending on category. Payment processing of 2.9% + $0.30 is charged separately on the full amount the buyer pays, including shipping and tax. Choose “Custom / promotional rate” for new-seller promotions or negotiated terms.

With the default inputs, the payout after whatnot fees is $43.96. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

How to use the whatnot fee calculator

  1. 1Choose the category of your show or listing.
  2. 2Select the tier you unlocked last period, or enter a custom or promotional rate.
  3. 3Enter the sale price, buyer shipping and the buyer’s sales tax rate.
  4. 4Add what you paid for the item and any other costs you cover.
  5. 5Read your payout and profit, and see how much the next tier would save.

Formula and method

Payout = Price − (Price × Commission %) − ((Price + Shipping + Tax) × 2.9% + $0.30)

Whatnot calculates commission on gross merchandise value — the sale price of the item only, excluding buyer-paid shipping and tax. The rate depends on the category of the live show (or of the product for marketplace sales) and on the tier your total sales over the previous four weeks unlocked.

Payment processing is separate: 2.9% of the total the buyer pays (item price, shipping and tax) plus a fixed $0.30 per transaction in the US. Buyer-paid shipping covers the label and sales tax is remitted by Whatnot, so neither reaches you; your payout is the sale price minus commission and processing. Profit then subtracts your cost for the item and any extra costs you cover.

Worked examples

$50 Pokémon card sale at the Standard tier

TCG commission at the Standard tier is 8% of $50 = $4.00. The buyer pays $50 + $6 shipping + $4 tax = $60, so processing is 2.9% × $60 + $0.30 = $2.04. Your payout is $50 − $6.04 = $43.96, and profit after a $20 card cost is $23.96.

Whatnot’s own $10 item example

An 8% commission on the $10 item price is $0.80, matching Whatnot’s help-centre example. Processing on the $15.84 the buyer pays (including $4.99 shipping and $0.85 tax) is $0.76, leaving a payout of about $8.44.

$300 sneakers from a Tier 3 fashion seller

Fashion at Tier 3 pays 5.5%, so commission is $16.50. Processing is 2.9% of $336 ($300 + $15 shipping + $21 tax) plus $0.30 = $10.04. The payout is $273.46 and profit after the $210 cost is $63.46.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Whatnot take from sellers?+

In the US Whatnot charges a commission of 8% of the sale price at the Standard tier (4% for Coins & Money), falling as low as 3.5%–6.5% at higher tiers, plus payment processing of 2.9% + $0.30 on the total the buyer pays. On a $50 card with $6 shipping and 8% tax, total fees come to about $6.04, roughly 12% of the item price.

How do Whatnot’s commission tiers work?+

Your total sales across all categories in a four-week (28-day) period decide the tier you unlock for the next period. The rate within that tier depends on the category of each show or product. Tiers reset every four weeks, so rates rise again if sales drop.

Does Whatnot charge commission on shipping and tax?+

No. Commission is calculated only on the item sale price. Payment processing, however, is charged on the full order amount including buyer-paid shipping and sales tax, plus a $0.30 fixed fee per transaction.

What are Whatnot’s fees outside the US?+

Canada and Australia also use 2.9% + $0.30 processing; the EU and UK use 2.42% + €/£0.25 plus VAT, and commission rates and tier thresholds are set per market. Japan charges 8% + JCT (4% for Coins & Money). This calculator uses the US rate card.

Does the Premier Shop discount still apply?+

Whatnot says the 10% Premier Shop commission discount applies on top of your tier rate through October 31, 2026, and is removed from November 1. Use the custom rate option to model it, for example 5% × 0.9 = 4.5%.
