About the eBay Fee Calculator
This eBay fee calculator estimates what eBay deducts when an item sells and how much profit you keep. Enter the sale price, the shipping you charge the buyer, the sales tax rate eBay collects, and your own costs, and it calculates the final value fee, the per-order fee, any Promoted Listings ad fee, your payout and your net profit and margin.
It is designed for casual sellers clearing out a closet, resellers and flippers pricing inventory, and small businesses comparing eBay against Amazon, Etsy or their own store. Run it before you list to set a price that covers fees and shipping, or after a sale to see what you really made.
On eBay US the final value fee is charged on the total amount of the sale — item price, shipping and sales tax — and most categories use a single percentage up to $7,500 per item with a lower rate above that. The 13.6% default is eBay’s most-categories rate for sellers without a store subscription as reviewed in September 2026; rates differ by category and store level and change from time to time, so check eBay’s current fee page and edit the rate if needed.
With the default inputs, the net profit is $18.92. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

Formula and method
eBay calculates the final value fee on the total amount of the sale, T, which includes the item price, the shipping the buyer pays and sales tax. The first $7,500 is charged at the category rate r and anything above at 2.35%, as for most categories. A per-order fee of $0.30 applies to orders of $10 or less and $0.40 above $10. Promoted Listings (general) fees are the ad rate multiplied by the same total.
Your payout is item price plus shipping charged minus all eBay fees, since the sales tax passes through to the state. Net profit subtracts your item cost and actual shipping cost. The calculator ignores optional listing upgrades, international fees and store subscriptions.
- T
- Order total: item price + shipping + sales tax
- r

- FVF

Worked examples
$50 item with $8 shipping, promoted at 2%
With 7% tax the buyer pays $62.06. The 13.6% final value fee on that total is $8.44, plus the $0.40 per-order fee and a $1.24 ad fee — $10.08 in all. You receive $47.92, and after $20 item cost and $9 shipping you keep $18.92.
$9,000 item above the $7,500 tier
The first $7,500 is charged 13.6% ($1,020) and the remaining $1,500 at 2.35% ($35.25), for a final value fee of $1,055.25. With the $0.40 order fee, $7,000 cost and $150 shipping, profit is $794.35.
$8 item with free shipping
The $8 order is under $10, so the per-order fee is $0.30, and the final value fee is $1.09. After a $2 item cost and $4.50 of postage, profit is only about $0.11 — a sign that low-price items need a shipping charge or bundling.
Frequently asked questions
How much does eBay take from a sale?+
For most categories eBay charges a final value fee of roughly 13–15% of the total sale (item, shipping and sales tax) plus a small per-order fee. Promoted Listings, store subscriptions and optional upgrades add more.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?+
Yes. The final value fee is calculated on the total amount the buyer pays, which includes the shipping charge and sales tax. Offering free shipping and building it into the price leads to about the same fee.
What is the eBay per-order fee?+
In addition to the percentage fee, eBay US charges a fixed per-order fee: $0.30 when the order total is $10 or less and $0.40 when it is over $10.
Does a store subscription lower eBay fees?+
Store subscribers generally get lower final value fee rates in many categories and more free listings each month. Whether it pays off depends on your sales volume; enter your store rate in the final value fee field to compare.
Are eBay fees tax deductible?+
If you sell as a business, marketplace fees are generally a deductible business expense along with item cost and shipping. Keep your eBay fee reports and consult a tax professional for your situation.
