About the Mercari Fee Calculator

This Mercari fee calculator shows what Mercari deducts when your item sells and how much you actually take home. Enter the sale price, who pays shipping and the label cost, plus what you paid for the item, and it calculates the selling fee, your earnings, net profit and margin. It also shows the total the buyer sees at checkout, including Mercari’s Buyer Protection fee.

It is built for closet clean-outs, resellers and flippers comparing Mercari with eBay, Poshmark and Depop. Use it before listing to decide whether to offer free shipping and what price still leaves a profit after fees.

Rules follow Mercari US’s “Fees on Mercari” help page for listings created or updated since January 6, 2025: a 10% selling fee on the item price plus any buyer-paid shipping, no separate payment processing fee for the seller, a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee charged to the buyer, free direct-deposit withdrawals and a $3 fee per Instant Pay cash-out. Sales tax is collected from the buyer and not included here.

With the default inputs, the net profit is $25.20. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

  3. 3Enter what you paid for the item.

  5. 5Read the selling fee, payout and net profit.

Formula and method

Fee = 10% × (price + buyer-paid shipping) Earnings = price − fee − seller-paid shipping − cash-out fee

Mercari charges sellers a 10% selling fee on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. If you offer free shipping, the fee is charged on the item price only, but the label cost is deducted from your earnings instead. There is no separate payment processing fee for sellers on listings created or updated since January 6, 2025.

Withdrawing by direct deposit is free; Instant Pay costs $3 per cash-out. Net profit subtracts your item cost from earnings. The buyer separately pays a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on item price plus buyer-paid shipping, which does not reduce your earnings. Break-even price solves earnings − cost = 0.

Worked examples

$40 item, buyer pays $7.99 shipping

The 10% fee applies to $40 + $7.99 = $47.99, so Mercari takes $4.80. You receive $35.20 and, after a $10 item cost, keep $25.20. The buyer pays $47.99 plus the 3.6% Buyer Protection fee, about $49.72 before tax.

$40 item with free shipping and Instant Pay

With free shipping the fee is 10% of $40 = $4, but the $7.99 label comes out of your earnings, and Instant Pay costs $3. You receive $25.01 and profit $15.01 after the $10 item cost.

$150 sneakers, buyer-paid shipping

The fee is 10% of $163.09 = $16.31. You receive $133.69 and keep $43.69 after paying $90 for the pair.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Mercari take from a sale?+

Mercari US charges sellers a 10% selling fee on the item price plus any buyer-paid shipping. There is no separate payment processing fee for sellers on current listings, and direct-deposit withdrawals are free.

Does Mercari charge fees on shipping?+

Yes, when the buyer pays shipping, the 10% fee is calculated on the item price plus that shipping amount. If you offer free shipping, the fee is on the item price only, but the label cost is deducted from your earnings.

What is the Mercari Buyer Protection fee?+

Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee of 3.6% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping at checkout. It is charged to the buyer, so it does not reduce what the seller earns.

How much does Mercari Instant Pay cost?+

Instant Pay sends your balance to an eligible debit card for a $3 flat fee per cash-out, not per sale, so cashing out several sales at once spreads the cost. Standard direct deposit to a bank account is free, though a failed deposit request costs $2.

Is Mercari cheaper than Poshmark or eBay?+

For most items Mercari’s 10% fee is lower than Poshmark’s 20% on sales of $15 or more and below eBay’s final value fee for most categories, which is over 13% plus a per-order fee. Compare the payout for your exact price with each marketplace’s calculator.
