Formula and method
CBSE’s rule multiplies CGPA by 9.5 because, when grading was introduced, the average percentage of students in the A1 band (90–100 marks) worked out to about 95, i.e. 9.5 per grade point. Many universities instead treat the 10-point scale as a direct proxy for percent and multiply by 10.
Some universities subtract 0.75 before multiplying by 10, which lowers the percentage by 7.5 points. The custom option covers any other linear rule of the form (CGPA − k) × m. Results are capped between 0% and 100%. The 4.0-scale value is a simple proportional rescale, not an official credential evaluation.

Worked examples
CBSE CGPA of 8.2
Using the CBSE rule, 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%, which falls in the first-class-with-distinction band (75%+). The simple 4.0-scale rescale is 8.2 ÷ 10 × 4 = 3.28.
Engineering CGPA of 7.5 with the 0.75 offset
Subtracting 0.75 first gives 6.75, and × 10 = 67.5%, a first class. The direct × 10 rule would have given 75%.
Custom rule: (CGPA − 0.5) × 10
With a university rule of (CGPA − 0.5) × 10, a CGPA of 8.0 converts to 7.5 × 10 = 75%.
