About the Half Birthday Calculator
This half birthday calculator finds the date that falls exactly six months after your birthday, tells you the day of the week and counts down the days until the next one. You can also switch to quarter (3-month), third (4-month), two-thirds (8-month) or three-quarter (9-month) birthdays.
Half birthdays are popular for children whose real birthday lands near Christmas or during school holidays, for classroom celebrations of summer birthdays, for couples who like an excuse for a mid-year treat, and for baby milestones such as “6 months old”. The table lists the next five occurrences with the age you will be on each one.
The tool adds whole calendar months to your birth date, which is how most people count half birthdays. When the target month is shorter — for example a birthday on August 31 — the date moves to the last day of that month (February 28, or 29 in a leap year).

Formula and method
The calculator adds the chosen number of calendar months to your birth date — 6 for a half birthday, 3 for a quarter, 9 for three-quarters — and then whole years until it reaches the first date on or after your starting date. Adding months keeps the same day number, so a July 4 birthday gives a January 4 half birthday.
If that day does not exist in the target month (for example the 31st, or February 29 in a common year), the date is moved back to the last day of that month. An alternative some people use is exactly 182 or 183 days after the birthday; that can differ from the calendar-month method by one to three days.

Worked examples
Birthday August 15, 1995
Six months after August 15 is February 15. The next one after September 29, 2026 is Monday, February 15, 2027 — 139 days away — when this person turns 31½.
Birthday on August 31 (month-end rule)
February has no 31st, so the half birthday moves to the last day of February. In 2027 (not a leap year) that is Sunday, February 28, when they turn 26½.
Quarter birthday for a May 10 birthday
A quarter birthday is 3 months after the birthday: August 10. The 2026 one has already passed by September 29, so the next is August 10, 2027, when they turn 37¼.
Frequently asked questions
How do I work out my half birthday?+
Add six months to your birthday and keep the same day number. A March 3 birthday has a September 3 half birthday, and an October 20 birthday has an April 20 half birthday. If the day does not exist, use the last day of the month.
When is the half birthday for someone born on August 31?+
Six months after August 31 is February, which has no 31st day. Most people celebrate on February 28, or February 29 in a leap year, which is what this calculator returns.
Is a half birthday exactly 182.5 days after a birthday?+
Half a year is about 182.6 days, but most people use calendar months instead because it keeps the same day of the month. The two methods can differ by one to three days depending on the months involved.
