About the Nepali Date Converter
This Nepali date converter switches dates between the Gregorian calendar (AD, often called the English date) and Bikram Sambat (BS, विक्रम संवत्), the official calendar of Nepal. Choose AD → BS to find the Nepali date for a birthday, document or deadline, or BS → AD to turn a date from a citizenship certificate, school record or government notice into its English date.
The result shows the BS year, month and day in English and Devanagari, the weekday with its Nepali name (Aaitabar, Sombar …), how many days that Nepali month has, and a table of when every month of the BS year begins. It is meant for Nepali families abroad, students filling in forms, HR and payroll staff, and anyone dealing with Nepali paperwork.
Unlike the Gregorian calendar, BS month lengths (29 to 32 days) are not fixed by a formula: they follow the solar sankranti and are announced each year by Nepal’s calendar committee. This converter uses published month lengths for BS 2000 to 2083 (14 April 1943 to 13 April 2027). Later years are added once the official calendar is released, so dates beyond that range are not guessed.
How to use the nepali date converter
- 1Choose AD → BS or BS → AD.
- 2Enter the English date, or pick the BS year, month and day.
- 3Read the converted date with its weekday (bar) and the date in Devanagari.
- 4Use the table to see when each Nepali month of that year begins and how long it is.
Formula and method
Bikram Sambat is a solar calendar about 56 years and 8½ months ahead of AD. Each month begins at a sankranti — when the Sun enters the next zodiac sign — so months run from 29 to 32 days and the pattern differs from year to year. Because the lengths depend on astronomical calculations made by Nepal’s calendar committee (Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Bikas Samiti), converters rely on a table of published month lengths rather than a fixed rule.
The converter counts days from the anchor 1 Baisakh 2000 BS = 14 April 1943 AD. For AD → BS it finds how many days have passed since the anchor and walks through the year and month lengths; for BS → AD it adds up the lengths of the earlier years and months. Weekdays come from the same day count, so they match the Nepali calendar exactly.

Worked examples
29 September 2026 in Bikram Sambat
2083 BS began on 14 April 2026. Adding Baisakh (31), Jestha (31), Asar (32), Shrawan (31) and Bhadra (31) days brings us to 1 Asoj on 17 September, so 29 September 2026 is 13 Asoj 2083, a Tuesday.
Nepali New Year 2083 (1 Baisakh)
1 Baisakh 2083 fell on Tuesday 14 April 2026, matching the government holiday notice. The year has 365 days and ends on 13 April 2027.
Christmas Day 2025 in BS
Christmas, 25 December 2025, was Poush 10, 2082 — a Thursday, exactly as listed in Nepal’s official 2082 public holiday notice.
Date of birth written in BS
A BS birth date of 6 Jestha 2047 converts to Sunday 20 May 1990 — useful when a passport or foreign form needs the AD date.
Frequently asked questions
How many years ahead is BS from AD?+
Bikram Sambat is 56 years and about 8½ months ahead. From mid-April to 31 December, add 57 to the AD year; from 1 January to mid-April, add 56. For example, September 2026 is in 2083 BS.
When is Nepali New Year?+
Nepali New Year is 1 Baisakh, which usually falls on 13 or 14 April. 1 Baisakh 2083 BS was 14 April 2026, and 2084 BS is expected to begin on 14 April 2027.
Why do Nepali months have 29 to 32 days?+
BS months follow the Sun’s movement through the zodiac signs (sankranti). The Earth moves faster in its orbit near January, so winter months are shorter (29–30 days) and summer months longer (31–32 days).
Why can’t I convert dates after 2083 BS?+
BS month lengths are fixed each year by Nepal’s official calendar committee, and different software guesses future years differently. To avoid wrong dates, this converter covers only years with published calendars.
What are the 12 Nepali months?+
Baisakh, Jestha, Asar, Shrawan (Saun), Bhadra (Bhadau), Asoj (Ashwin), Kartik, Mangsir, Poush (Push), Magh, Falgun and Chaitra (Chait).
