About the Fluid Ounces to Cups Converter
This fluid ounces to cups converter takes a liquid volume in fluid ounces and shows it as cups, pints, quarts, gallons and milliliters at once, plus tablespoons and teaspoons for US measures. It answers the classic kitchen question "how many ounces in a cup?" — eight US fluid ounces.
Use it to read drink and bottle sizes (a 12 oz can, a 16.9 oz water bottle, a 64 oz jug), scale recipes, measure baby formula or smoothie ingredients, or check how many servings a container holds.
Fluid ounces measure volume, not weight, so they only match weight ounces for water-like liquids. US and UK fluid ounces also differ slightly (29.57 ml versus 28.41 ml), and a UK pint holds 20 fl oz instead of 16 — switch the system if your recipe is British.
With the default inputs, the cups is 1.5 cups. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.
How to use the fluid ounces to cups converter
- 1Enter the volume in fluid ounces.
- 2Choose US customary or UK imperial.
- 3Read cups at the top, then pints, quarts, gallons and milliliters.
- 4Use the tablespoon and teaspoon figures for small US amounts.
Formula and method
In US customary units a cup is 8 fluid ounces, a pint is 2 cups (16 fl oz), a quart is 2 pints (32 fl oz) and a gallon is 4 quarts (128 fl oz). One US fluid ounce is exactly 29.5735295625 ml and equals 2 tablespoons or 6 teaspoons.
The imperial system uses a smaller fluid ounce of 28.4130625 ml but bigger containers: 20 fl oz to the pint, 40 to the quart and 160 to the gallon, with the traditional cup as half a pint (10 fl oz). The converter divides your ounces by the right number for the chosen system.

Worked examples
A 12 oz can of soda
12 ÷ 8 = 1.5 cups, or 0.75 pint. In metric that is 12 × 29.57 = 354.9 ml, the familiar 355 ml can.
A 64 oz jug of juice
64 fl oz ÷ 8 = 8 cups, which is 4 pints, 2 quarts or half a gallon.
20 imperial fl oz (a UK pint)
With 10 imperial fl oz per cup, 20 fl oz is 2 cups or exactly 1 UK pint, which is 568.26 ml.
