Formula and method
The US fluid ounce is 1/128 of a US gallon (3.785411784 L), which is exactly 29.5735295625 mL. The UK fluid ounce is 1/160 of an imperial gallon (4.54609 L), exactly 28.4130625 mL. Dividing milliliters by each gives the ounces.
US kitchen measures follow the US gallon: a cup is 8 fl oz (236.59 mL), a tablespoon is ½ fl oz (14.79 mL) and a teaspoon is ⅓ tablespoon (4.93 mL). Nutrition labels may round a cup to 240 mL.
