About the Easy Grader
This easy grader is the online version of the classic cardboard EZ Grader slide chart teachers keep on their desks. Enter how many questions (or points) a test has and it prints a complete grading chart: for every number of questions missed, the number correct, the percentage score and the letter grade.
Type the number a student got wrong to see that single score instantly, or scroll the chart to grade a whole stack of papers without a calculator. Half-point steps are available for tests with partial credit, and you can round percentages to whole numbers or one or two decimals.
Letter grades use the common US scale (A 90+, B 80+, C 70+, D 60+) with optional plus/minus bands, applied to the rounded percentage as most teachers record it. It works for quizzes, worksheets, spelling tests and rubric points alike.

Formula and method
Every question carries the same share of the grade, 100 ÷ Total percent. Subtracting the number wrong from the total gives the number correct, and dividing by the total converts it to a percentage. The chart repeats this for every possible number wrong, stepping by whole or half points.
Percentages are rounded half-up to the precision you choose, and the letter grade is read from the rounded score (A+ 97+, A 93+, A− 90+, B+ 87+ … D− 60+, F below 60 on the plus/minus scale). For weighted questions, enter total points instead of question count.

Worked examples
25-question quiz, 3 wrong
Each question is worth 100 ÷ 25 = 4%. Missing 3 leaves 22 correct: 22 ÷ 25 = 88%, which is a B+ on the plus/minus scale.
20-question test, 7 wrong, simple scale
On a 20-question test each question is 5%. Thirteen correct gives 13 ÷ 20 = 65%, a D on a simple 10-point scale.
40-point test with partial credit
Losing 5.5 of 40 points leaves 34.5: 34.5 ÷ 40 = 86.25%, rounded to 86.3% — a B. Half-point steps add rows for 0.5, 1.5, 2.5 and so on to the chart.

What is an EZ Grader?+
An EZ Grader is a slide chart teachers use to read a test’s percentage score from the number of questions and the number missed. This online easy grader does the same thing for any test length, with letter grades.
How do I calculate a test percentage?+
Subtract the number wrong from the total to get the number right, divide by the total, and multiply by 100. For example, 17 right out of 20 is 17 ÷ 20 × 100 = 85%.
How many can you miss and still get an A?+
For a 90% A, students can miss up to 10% of the questions: 2 of 20, 3 of 30, or 5 of 50. On a 25-question test that is 2 misses (92%), because 3 misses give 88%.
Does the grader handle half points?+
Yes. Enter a number wrong like 2.5 for partial credit, and switch on half-point steps to add 0.5 increments to the grading chart.
What if questions have different point values?+
Enter the total points on the test instead of the question count, and the points lost instead of questions wrong. The percentage is calculated the same way.
