About the Organic Traffic Value Calculator

This organic traffic value calculator estimates what your unpaid search traffic is worth by asking a simple question: what would it cost to buy the same visits through Google Ads? Multiply monthly organic visits by the average cost per click for your keywords and you get the “traffic value” that SEO tools report — a quick way to show the size of an SEO asset.

Because paid-click equivalence can flatter informational traffic, the calculator also estimates real revenue from organic visits using your conversion rate and average order value, and compares both against what you spend on SEO each month (content, tools, agency or salaries). A monthly growth rate projects the value over the next 12 months.

Use it to justify an SEO budget, compare SEO with paid search, or value a website you are buying or selling. For the CPC, use the average cost per click of the keywords that actually drive your traffic, from Google Ads Keyword Planner or your SEO tool.

With the default inputs, the monthly traffic value (paid equivalent) is $27,000.00. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

  5. 5Compare traffic value, revenue and ROI to decide how much to invest in SEO.

Formula and method

Traffic value = Visits × CPC
Revenue = Visits × CR × AOV
ROI = (Value − SEO cost) ÷ SEO cost

Traffic value multiplies monthly organic visits by the average cost per click you would pay in paid search for the same keywords. The 12-month value compounds visits by the monthly growth rate while keeping the CPC constant.

Revenue from organic traffic uses your conversion rate and average order or lead value. ROI is shown two ways — against the paid-equivalent value and against real revenue — because traffic value measures what SEO saves you on ads, while revenue ROI measures what it earns. SEO cost per visit divides monthly spend by visits.

CPC
Average cost per click of your ranking keywords
CR
Conversion rate of organic visitors
AOV
Average order or lead value

Worked examples

Online store with 15,000 organic visits

15,000 visits × $1.80 CPC means the traffic would cost $27,000 a month in ads. With 2% monthly growth the next year is worth about $362,000. At 1.5% conversion and $60 orders it earns $13,500 a month — a 440% return on $2,500 of SEO spend.

B2B site with expensive keywords

Only 4,000 visits, but at $3.50 per click they are worth $14,000 a month ($168,000 a year). 80 leads worth $120 each is $9,600 revenue, a 220% return on $3,000 of SEO.

Content site growing 5% a month

80,000 visits at $0.90 is $72,000 of monthly traffic value, compounding to about $1.15 million over 12 months at 5% growth. Revenue of $28,800 on $6,000 of spend is a 380% ROI.

Frequently asked questions

What is organic traffic value?+

It is the estimated amount you would pay for the same visits through paid search ads — visits multiplied by the cost per click of the keywords sending them. SEO tools report it to show how valuable a site’s rankings are.

Is traffic value the same as revenue?+

No. Traffic value is an ad-cost equivalent, not money earned. Informational keywords can have high CPCs but low buying intent, so also look at revenue from conversion rate and order value.

How do I find the average CPC for my keywords?+

Export the keywords driving your traffic from Google Search Console, then look up their suggested bids in Google Ads Keyword Planner or an SEO tool, and weight the CPCs by clicks to get an average.

How do I calculate SEO ROI?+

Subtract monthly SEO costs from the revenue (or value) organic traffic produces and divide by the costs. For example $13,500 revenue on $2,500 spend is (13,500 − 2,500) ÷ 2,500 = 440% ROI. For a stricter figure, use gross profit (revenue × margin) instead of revenue.
