About the Truth or Dare Generator
This truth or dare generator draws random prompts so nobody has to think of questions on the spot. Choose an intensity — kids, teens or adults — then pick truths only, dares only, a random mix or strictly alternating turns, and generate as many prompts as your group needs. Prompts are never repeated within a batch.
The kids level suits sleepovers, birthday parties and classrooms. The teens level adds social-media dares and crush questions for parties and camps. The adults level is cheeky but not explicit — think worst dates, guilty pleasures and phone dares — so it works for game nights, hen and stag dos and team socials where everyone knows each other.
Every dare is designed to be safe and harmless. Players should always be allowed to pass, and anything involving phones or messages should only go ahead with the owner's consent. Use a seed to replay the same list, for example to print it in advance.
How to use the truth or dare generator
- 1Choose an intensity that suits everyone playing.
- 2Pick alternate, random mix, truths only or dares only.
- 3Set the number of prompts — one or two per player is a good round.
- 4Generate and read the prompts in order, letting anyone pass if they want.
Formula and method
The tool first decides the type of each prompt. In alternate mode it starts with a truth and switches every turn; in mix mode each turn is a fair coin flip, so the number of truths follows a binomial distribution with p = ½. It then draws that many truths and dares from the chosen intensity level without replacement, using a Fisher–Yates shuffle.
Because prompts are never repeated in a batch, the number you can draw is limited by the bank size: 20 truths and 20 dares for kids, and 22 of each for teens and adults. If one type runs out in a mixed list, the remaining turns use the other type.
- n
- Number of prompts requested
- ⌈ ⌉, ⌊ ⌋
- Round up, round down
Worked examples
Six alternating prompts for a teen party
Alternate mode starts with a truth and switches each turn, so six prompts give three truths and three dares. The teens level has 22 truths and 22 dares, 44 prompts in all.
Seven kids' prompts, alternating
With an odd number of turns the extra prompt is a truth: ⌈7 ÷ 2⌉ = 4 truths and ⌊7 ÷ 2⌋ = 3 dares, drawn from 20 kids' truths and 20 kids' dares.
Asking for 30 adult dares
The adults level has 22 dares, so a dares-only request for 30 returns all 22 in random order without repeats.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play truth or dare?+
Players take turns. On your turn you choose "truth" and answer a question honestly, or "dare" and complete a challenge. Use the alternate or random-mix mode here if you want the generator to decide for you.
What are good truth or dare questions for kids?+
Keep them silly and kind: favourite cartoon characters, funniest school moments, animal impressions and dance moves. The kids level contains only questions and dares like these, with nothing unkind, risky or involving phones.
Is the adults level explicit?+
No. The adults level is cheeky — worst dates, guilty pleasures, phone and impression dares — but contains no sexual or dangerous content, so it suits game nights and parties among friends.
What if someone does not want to do a dare?+
Let them pass or swap to a truth. Many groups use a forfeit like a silly hat or an extra round. Never pressure anyone into a dare they are uncomfortable with.
How many prompts are there?+
There are 128 in total: 20 truths and 20 dares at the kids level, and 22 truths and 22 dares each at the teens and adults levels.
