About the Crypto Profit Calculator
This crypto profit calculator shows exactly how much you made or lost on a trade in Bitcoin, Ethereum or any other coin. Enter how many coins you bought, the price you paid, the price you sold at (or today’s price) and the percentage fee your exchange charged on each side, and it returns your net profit, return on investment and total fees.
Fees are easy to forget but they matter: a 0.5% fee on both the buy and the sell means the price has to rise about 1% just to get your money back. The calculator also gives the break-even sell price and a scenario table showing your result if the price moves up or down from your entry.
Use it before you place a trade to set a realistic take-profit target, or afterwards to record the real result for your tax records. It works for any asset priced per unit, including tokens bought for fractions of a cent.
With the default inputs, the net profit / loss is $8,232.50. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.
How to use the crypto profit calculator
- 1Enter how many coins you bought (fractions are fine).
- 2Enter the price you paid per coin and the price you sold at or the current price.
- 3Add the percentage fee your exchange charged on the buy and on the sell.
- 4Read your net profit, ROI and total fees.
- 5Check the break-even price and scenario table before setting a sell target.
Formula and method
Your total cost is the coins bought times the buy price, plus the buy fee charged as a percentage of that value. Your net proceeds are the coins times the sell price, minus the sell fee charged on the sale value. Profit is proceeds minus cost, and ROI divides profit by the total cost including the buy fee.
The break-even price is the sell price at which net proceeds exactly equal total cost. Because fees are taken on both sides, it is always slightly above your buy price. Network withdrawal fees and spreads not shown as a percentage are not included — add them to the fee percentages if you want them counted.

Worked examples
0.5 BTC bought at $45,000, sold at $62,000
Buying 0.5 coin at $45,000 costs $22,500 plus a $112.50 fee = $22,612.50. Selling at $62,000 grosses $31,000 minus a $155 fee = $30,845. Net profit is $8,232.50, a 36.4% return, and you needed at least $45,452.26 just to break even.
2 ETH sold at a loss
The buy costs 2 × $3,800 = $7,600 plus a 0.6% fee ($45.60) = $7,645.60. Selling at $3,100 brings $6,200 minus $37.20 in fees = $6,162.80, for a loss of $1,482.80 or about −19.4%.
Small-cap token with a 10x gain
One million tokens at $0.002 cost $2,000 plus a $2 fee. At $0.02 they are worth $20,000; after a $20 sell fee you receive $19,980, a net profit of $17,978 on $2,002 invested.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate crypto profit?+
Multiply the coins you hold by the sell price, subtract the sell fee, then subtract what you paid including the buy fee. Divide that profit by your total cost and multiply by 100 to get your percentage return.
Should I include fees in my crypto profit?+
Yes. Exchange fees reduce every trade’s result, and in the US they are added to your cost basis or subtracted from proceeds for tax purposes. With 0.5% on each side, the price must rise about 1% before you make any money.
What is a break-even price in crypto?+
It is the sell price where your proceeds after the sell fee exactly equal what you paid including the buy fee. Break-even = buy price × (1 + buy fee) ÷ (1 − sell fee).
Is crypto profit taxable?+
In the US and many other countries, selling, swapping or spending crypto for more than you paid is a taxable capital gain. US gains on coins held longer than a year qualify for lower long-term rates. Use the crypto tax calculator to estimate the tax.
How do I calculate profit if I bought at several prices?+
Work out your average cost first: total dollars spent including fees divided by total coins bought. Then use that average as the buy price, or use the crypto DCA calculator, which does this automatically.
