About the Crypto Leverage Profit Calculator

This crypto leverage calculator shows the profit or loss on a leveraged futures or perpetual swap trade. Choose long or short, enter your entry and exit prices, the margin you post and the leverage, and it returns the position size, the gross PnL, trading fees on both sides, the net PnL and your return on equity (ROE) — the percentage gain or loss on the margin you actually put up.

Leverage multiplies the price move: a 5% move at 10x is roughly a 50% gain or loss on margin. That is why ROE is the number traders watch, and why small adverse moves at high leverage can wipe out the margin entirely. The leverage table shows the same trade at different multipliers so you can see the trade-off before you click.

The calculation assumes a linear (USDT- or USDC-margined) contract, taker fees charged on the notional value at entry and exit, and no funding payments. A trade that would lose the whole margin is shown as liquidated (−100% ROE); in practice exchanges liquidate a little earlier, when equity falls to the maintenance margin. Funding on perpetuals is paid or received every few hours and can matter on longer holds — use the funding rate calculator to add it.

With the default inputs, the net profit / loss is $489.75. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

How to use the crypto leverage profit calculator

  1. 1Choose long or short.
  2. 2Enter the entry price and the exit (target or stop) price.
  3. 3Enter the margin you will post and the leverage.
  4. 4Set your exchange’s fee rate per side.
  5. 5Read net PnL and ROE, then compare leverage levels in the table.

Formula and method

Size = Margin × L; Q = Size ÷ E; PnL = Q × (X − E) × d; Fees = f × (Size + Q × X); ROE = (PnL − Fees) ÷ Margin

The position’s notional size is your margin multiplied by leverage, and the quantity of coins is that size divided by the entry price. Gross profit is the quantity times the price change, with the sign flipped for shorts (d = +1 for a long, −1 for a short).

Fees are charged as a percentage of notional value when the position is opened (at the entry price) and closed (at the exit price). ROE divides the net result by the margin, which is why it equals roughly the price change times the leverage. The break-even exit price is where gross profit exactly pays both fees: E × (1 + f) ÷ (1 − f) for a long and E × (1 − f) ÷ (1 + f) for a short. Funding payments and slippage are not included.

Worked examples

10x BTC long from $60,000 to $63,000

With $1,000 margin at 10x you control $10,000 of BTC (0.1667 BTC). A 5% rise earns $500 gross. Fees of 0.05% on $10,000 at entry and $10,500 at exit total $10.25, leaving $489.75 — a 48.98% ROE.

20x ETH short from $3,000 to $2,850

A $500 margin at 20x shorts $10,000 of ETH (3.333 ETH). A 5% drop earns $500; fees on $10,000 and $9,500 notional are $9.75, so the net gain is $490.25, nearly doubling the margin.

Losing 10x long: price falls 5%

The same 10x long closed at $57,000 loses $500 on the price move plus $9.75 in fees, a −50.98% ROE. Leverage magnifies losses exactly as it magnifies gains.

Frequently asked questions

How is ROE calculated on crypto futures?+

ROE (return on equity) is net profit or loss divided by the initial margin you posted. Because margin is the position size divided by leverage, ROE is roughly the percentage price move multiplied by the leverage, minus fees.

Does higher leverage increase profit?+

It increases profit and loss per dollar of margin, not the profit per coin. A 2% move at 50x is a 100% ROE, but a 2% move the other way wipes out the margin. Position size, not leverage alone, determines the dollar result.

Are trading fees charged on margin or position size?+

On the full notional position size. With 10x leverage a 0.05% fee is 0.5% of your margin per side, so round-trip fees cost about 1% of margin before the trade makes anything.

What is the difference between PnL and ROE?+

PnL is the dollar profit or loss of the trade. ROE expresses that PnL as a percentage of the margin used. Two traders can have the same PnL but very different ROE if they used different leverage.

Does this include funding fees?+

No. Perpetual futures exchange funding between longs and shorts, usually every 8 hours. On multi-day trades it can add or subtract a meaningful amount — estimate it separately with a funding rate calculator.
