About the Crypto Staking Calculator
This crypto staking calculator projects how many tokens you will earn by staking on a proof-of-stake network such as Ethereum, Solana, Cardano or Polkadot. Enter how many tokens you stake, the reward rate (APR), how often rewards are compounded, any validator or pool commission, and how long you plan to stake.
It returns your final token balance, tokens earned, the effective APY after compounding, and the dollar value of your position. Because staking rewards are paid in tokens, the dollar result depends heavily on the token price — use the price change field to test bull, flat and bear scenarios.
Rates are variable: network reward rates change with the total amount staked and protocol rules, and liquid-staking providers and exchanges keep a share of rewards as commission. Treat the result as a projection, not a promise, and remember that staked tokens can be subject to lock-up or unbonding periods and, on some networks, slashing.
With the default inputs, the total tokens after staking is 35.5426. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.
How to use the crypto staking calculator
- 1Enter how many tokens you plan to stake and today’s price.
- 2Enter the staking reward rate (APR) from the network, pool or exchange.
- 3Choose how often rewards are re-staked and any commission charged.
- 4Set the staking period and an optional yearly price change.
- 5Review tokens earned, effective APY and the value chart.
Formula and method
Staking rewards are paid in the token you stake. When rewards are re-staked n times a year, your balance grows like compound interest: the net rate r (APR after the validator’s commission) is split into n periods and applied t years in a row. With no compounding, rewards are simple interest: T₀ × (1 + r × t).
Effective APY shows the yearly growth after compounding. Dollar values multiply the token balance by a projected price that changes by a fixed percentage each year. The calculator assumes the reward rate stays constant and ignores lock-up periods, slashing and taxes on rewards.
- T₀
- Tokens staked at the start
- r
- Net annual reward rate after commission
- n
- Compounding periods per year
- t
- Years staked
Worked examples
32 ETH staked at 3.5% APR for 3 years, compounded daily
32 × (1 + 0.035/365)^(365 × 3) ≈ 35.543 ETH, so you earn about 3.54 ETH — 0.18 ETH more than the 3.36 ETH simple interest would give. Daily compounding turns 3.5% APR into about 3.56% APY. At a flat $3,200 price the stake is worth about $113,736.
10,000 tokens at 7% APR with a 10% commission for 5 years
A 10% commission cuts 7% APR to 6.3%. Compounded monthly for 5 years, 10,000 tokens grow to about 13,691 — an effective 6.49% APY. At $0.50 each the position is worth about $6,846.
Simple (non-compounding) staking with a falling price
Without compounding, 100 tokens earn 6 per year for 2 years, ending at 112. If the price falls 20% a year, $150 becomes $96, so the stake is worth $10,752 — less than the $15,000 you started with, even though you have 12% more tokens.
Frequently asked questions
How are staking rewards calculated?+
Rewards are a percentage of your staked tokens per year. If rewards are re-staked automatically they compound: balance = tokens × (1 + APR ÷ n)^(n × years). Validators or exchanges usually keep a commission, so use the rate after their cut.
What is the difference between staking APR and APY?+
APR is the simple yearly rate. APY includes compounding, so it is higher when rewards are re-staked. A 5% APR compounded daily is about 5.13% APY. If a platform already quotes APY, pick “No compounding” here to avoid double-counting.
Are crypto staking rewards taxable?+
In the US, the IRS treats staking rewards as ordinary income at their fair market value when you gain control of them (Rev. Rul. 2023-14). Selling them later can also create a capital gain or loss. Other countries have their own rules.
Can you lose money staking crypto?+
Yes. Rewards are paid in tokens, so a falling price can wipe out their value. Staked tokens may also be locked or take days to unbond, and validators that misbehave can be slashed, losing part of the stake.
How much does 32 ETH earn staking?+
At a 3–4% reward rate, 32 ETH earns roughly 1 to 1.3 ETH per year before compounding. The actual rate changes with the total ETH staked across the network and with transaction fee income.
