About the Butter Converter
This butter converter translates any amount of butter between the units recipes use around the world: US sticks, cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, grams, ounces, pounds and the 250 g blocks sold in Europe, Australia and elsewhere. Enter the amount and the unit from your recipe, and every other measure appears at once.
It is handy when an American recipe calls for “1½ sticks” and you have a metric block, when a British recipe asks for 125 g and you have tablespoon markings on the wrapper, or when you need to know how many tablespoons are in a cup. A standard US stick is a quarter pound: 113 g, 4 oz, ½ cup or 8 tablespoons.
Conversions are by weight for solid butter, using the US convention that 1 cup of butter weighs half a pound (227 g). Melted butter measures the same by weight, and whipped butter contains air, so measure it by weight rather than volume.

Formula and method
Every unit is converted to grams first and then into the others. A US stick of butter is defined as a quarter pound (453.59 g ÷ 4 = 113.4 g), and by the US kitchen convention a stick is also ½ cup or 8 tablespoons, so a cup of butter is 226.8 g and a tablespoon 14.2 g.
Ounces use 28.35 g per avoirdupois ounce, and a European block is 250 g — about 2.2 sticks. Because butter is converted by weight, the results are exact for solid, melted or softened butter; only whipped butter, which contains air, differs by volume.
