The US short ton is defined as 2,000 avoirdupois pounds and the UK long ton as 2,240 pounds. The metric tonne is 1,000 kilograms, and since one pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg, a tonne is 1,000 ÷ 0.45359237 ≈ 2,204.62 pounds.
