Formula and method
Since 1959 the international yard has been defined as exactly 0.9144 meters. To convert meters to yards, divide by 0.9144 (equivalently multiply by 1.0936133). Feet are yards × 3 (or m ÷ 0.3048), inches are yards × 36 (or m ÷ 0.0254), and a mile is 1,760 yards or 1,609.344 m.
