About the Austria Salary Calculator
This Austria salary calculator — a Brutto-Netto-Rechner for Österreich — turns a monthly gross salary into net pay for a normal month and for the year. Austrian employees are paid 14 times a year: twelve regular salaries plus the 13th (Urlaubszuschuss) and 14th (Weihnachtsremuneration) salary, which are taxed far more lightly, so the calculator shows both the regular monthly net and the total annual net.
It is useful for employees in Vienna, Graz or Linz comparing offers, people relocating to Austria and anyone checking a payslip or a raise. You can add children for the Familienbonus Plus tax credit.
It applies 2026 rules: the income tax brackets of § 33 EStG (0% up to €13,539, then 20%, 30%, 40%, 48% and 50%), the €496 traffic credit (Verkehrsabsetzbetrag) with its low-income supplement, the €132 employee expense allowance, and employee social insurance of 18.07% on regular pay and 17.07% on the 13th and 14th salary, capped at the €6,930 monthly maximum contribution base. Special payments are taxed at 6% after a €620 allowance (27% and 35.75% for very high amounts). Lower monthly salaries pay a reduced unemployment contribution, which is not modelled, and commuter allowances, church contributions and refunds for very low incomes are excluded.
With the default inputs, the net pay in a regular month is €2,724.79. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

Formula and method
Regular pay: social insurance is 18.07% of monthly gross up to the €6,930 maximum base. Annual taxable income is 12 × (gross − social insurance) minus the €132 expense allowance; the § 33 EStG tariff is applied and the €496 Verkehrsabsetzbetrag (plus up to €804 for incomes under €30,259) and any Familienbonus Plus (€2,000.16 per child under 18) are subtracted.
13th and 14th salary: social insurance is 17.07% (capped at €13,860 a year), then the first €620 is tax-free and the rest is taxed at 6% up to a further €24,380, 27% on the next €25,000 and 35.75% on the next €33,333. If the annual sixth is no more than €2,615 the special payments are tax-free.

Worked examples
€4,000 a month, no children
Social insurance is €722.80 a month. Annual taxable income of €39,194 gives €7,125 tariff tax, minus the €496 traffic credit = €6,629 (€552 a month), so a regular month nets €2,725. The 13th and 14th salaries (€8,000) lose €1,366 social insurance and only €361 tax, for €38,971 net a year.
€3,000 a month
Taxable income of €29,363 is just under €30,259, so part of the €804 low-income traffic supplement still applies (€564.64 credit in total). Regular net pay is about €2,180 and the year totals about €30,872.
€8,000 a month, two children under 18
Pay above €6,930 is free of social insurance, capping it at €1,252.25 a month. The 48% bracket applies, but two Familienbonus Plus credits (€4,000) and the traffic credit cut wage tax to about €1,677 a month, leaving €5,071 net in a regular month.
