This words to pages calculator estimates how many pages an essay, report, manuscript or article will fill. Enter the word count, choose the font, font size and line spacing, and it returns the page count and the approximate number of words per page.

Students use it to check whether a 1,500-word essay meets a "5 pages double-spaced" requirement, and writers use it to estimate the length of a report or book draft. Changing the spacing or font size shows instantly how formatting affects page count — double spacing roughly doubles it.

Estimates assume standard 1-inch margins on US Letter or A4 paper, normal paragraphs and no images, tables or headings. At 12 pt single spacing, Arial fits about 500 words per page and Times New Roman about 550. These words-per-page figures are common rules of thumb, not an official or published standard: they are rough averages for English prose, and the size adjustment is a simple approximation. Real documents with short paragraphs, dialogue or headings will run somewhat longer, so check the page count in your word processor when a limit is strict.

Each font has a typical words-per-page figure at 12 pt, single spacing and 1-inch margins (Arial and Helvetica ≈ 500, Times New Roman and Calibri ≈ 550, Georgia ≈ 475, Verdana and Courier New ≈ 425). Changing the font size scales both the characters per line and the lines per page, so capacity scales with the square of 12 ÷ size. Line spacing divides the number of lines, so 1.5 spacing holds two-thirds as much and double spacing half.

None of these figures comes from an official standard; they are rules of thumb consistent with typical character widths of each font. Font-size scaling assumes text reflows proportionally, which real line breaking only approximates. They are averages for continuous prose with typical English word lengths. Headings, short paragraphs, dialogue, lists, images and wider margins all reduce words per page, so treat the result as an estimate rather than an exact page count.
