About the Reverse Text Generator
This reverse text generator flips any text in the way you need. Write a sentence completely backwards letter by letter, reverse the order of words while keeping each word readable, reverse the order of lines in a list, or reverse the letters inside every word while keeping the words in place.
It also creates upside-down text using look-alike Unicode characters (hello becomes ollǝɥ) and mirrored text for fun social posts, usernames, puzzles and games. A built-in palindrome checker tells you whether your phrase reads the same forwards and backwards once spaces, punctuation and capitals are ignored.
Upside-down and mirrored text are made from standard Unicode symbols, so they paste into most apps, but a few characters have no flipped equivalent and are left as they are. Reversing works on whole characters, so emoji and accented letters stay intact in most cases.
How to use the reverse text generator
- 1Type or paste your text.
- 2Choose what to reverse: characters, word order, line order, letters in each word, upside-down or mirrored.
- 3Copy the result and paste it wherever you need it.
- 4Check the palindrome result to see whether your phrase reads the same both ways.
Formula and method
Character reversal splits the text into Unicode code points (so most emoji and accented letters are not broken apart) and joins them in reverse order. Word-order mode reverses the words on each line separated by whitespace; line-order mode reverses the list of lines; each-word mode reverses the characters inside every run of non-space characters while leaving spaces where they are.
Upside-down text reverses the characters and swaps each for a rotated look-alike from Unicode (e → ǝ, h → ɥ, ? → ¿). Mirrored text reverses each line and swaps paired shapes such as brackets, slashes, b/d and p/q. The palindrome check keeps only letters and digits, lower-cases them and compares the sequence with its reverse; a single letter or digit is trivially a palindrome, and text with no letters or digits shows a dash.
Worked examples
Write a phrase backwards
All 13 characters of "Hello, World!", including the comma, space and exclamation mark, are written in reverse order.
Reverse word order
The six words are kept intact but placed in reverse order, which is useful for word puzzles or testing sentence structure.
Upside-down text
The letters are reversed (o, l, l, e, h) and each is replaced by an upside-down look-alike: e becomes ǝ and h becomes ɥ, while o and l look the same rotated.
Check a famous palindrome
Ignoring spaces, punctuation and capitals, the letters read amanaplanacanalpanama in both directions, so it is a palindrome. Each-word mode reverses the letters inside every word while keeping the words in order.
Single letter
A single letter reads the same forwards and backwards, so it is reported as a (trivial) palindrome.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write text backwards?+
Paste your text and choose "Whole text backwards". Every character, including spaces and punctuation, is placed in reverse order — "Hello" becomes "olleH". Copy the result into any app.
How does upside-down text work?+
There is no upside-down font; the tool replaces each letter with a Unicode character that looks like it rotated 180°, such as ɐ for a and ǝ for e, and reverses the order so it reads correctly when the screen is turned over.
Will upside-down text work on Instagram, TikTok or Discord?+
Usually yes, because the characters are standard Unicode that most platforms support. A few symbols may display differently depending on the font, and screen readers will not read them as normal words.
What is a palindrome?+
A word or phrase that reads the same forwards and backwards once spaces, punctuation and capitals are ignored — for example "racecar", "level" or "A man, a plan, a canal: Panama".
How do I reverse the order of lines in a list?+
Choose "Line order". The last line becomes the first and vice versa, while each line’s text stays the same — handy for flipping chronological logs or ranking lists.
