About the Salary to Hourly Calculator

This salary to hourly calculator converts pay in both directions. Enter an annual salary to find the equivalent hourly rate, or switch to hourly mode to see what an hourly wage adds up to over a year. Every result is also shown as daily, weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly and monthly pay so you can compare offers quoted in different ways.

It is useful when you are weighing a salaried job against an hourly one, negotiating a contract rate, checking whether a salary meets a minimum-wage or overtime threshold, or working out what an unpaid week off really costs. Adjust the hours per week and weeks per year to match your real schedule.

The standard full-time year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 paid hours. If you are not paid for holidays or vacation, reduce the weeks per year to see your true earnings per hour worked. All figures are gross (before tax).

With the default inputs, the hourly rate is $36.06. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

Formula and method

Hourly = Annual salary ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks per year)

Annual pay and hourly pay are linked by the number of paid hours in a year. A standard full-time schedule is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so a $75,000 salary equals $75,000 ÷ 2,080 ≈ $36.06 an hour. Going the other way, annual pay = hourly wage × hours per week × weeks per year.

Monthly pay is annual ÷ 12, semi-monthly ÷ 24 and biweekly ÷ 26. Weekly pay is annual ÷ paid weeks, and daily pay is hourly × (hours per week ÷ days per week). Figures are gross, before taxes and deductions.

Worked examples

$75,000 salary at 40 hours a week

$75,000 ÷ 2,080 hours = $36.06 per hour. That is $6,250 a month, $2,884.62 every two weeks and $288.46 per 8-hour day.

$25 an hour to annual salary

$25 × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000 a year, or $4,333.33 a month and $2,000 per biweekly paycheck.

$90,000 salary, 45-hour weeks, 2 weeks unpaid

Working 45 hours for 50 paid weeks is 2,250 hours, so $90,000 is exactly $40 per hour — less than the $43.27 a 40-hour, 52-week schedule would suggest.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert salary to hourly?+

Divide your annual salary by the hours you are paid for in a year. For a standard 40-hour week and 52 weeks, divide by 2,080: $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 per hour.

What is $50,000 a year per hour?+

At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $50,000 a year is about $24.04 per hour. At 37.5 hours a week it is about $25.64 per hour.

How many working hours are in a year?+

A full-time schedule of 40 hours per week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours. Payroll often uses 2,080 even though holidays and vacation are paid time off rather than worked time.

Is there a quick rule of thumb for hourly to salary?+

Double the hourly wage and add three zeros for a rough full-time salary: $20 an hour ≈ $40,000 a year (exactly $41,600 at 2,080 hours).

Should salaried workers count overtime hours?+

Yes, if you want your true hourly rate. A salaried employee working 50 hours a week earns less per hour than one working 40 for the same salary. Enter your actual hours to see it.
