About the PDF Splitter

This PDF splitter cuts a PDF into smaller documents right in your browser. Choose a PDF and split it by custom page ranges (each range becomes its own file), into one file per page, or into equal chunks of N pages; or extract selected pages into a single new PDF, or delete pages you do not need. Each new file can be downloaded individually or all together as a ZIP.

Because the document is processed locally, nothing is uploaded — useful for contracts, bank statements, medical forms and other confidential files, and for large scans that would be slow to send to an online service. Pages are copied exactly as they are, with their text, fonts, images and links between kept pages, so the output looks identical and text stays selectable; only the resources each page uses are included, so split files are usually much smaller than the original.

Range syntax is flexible: 1-3, 5, 8-end; odd or even; 9-6 for reversed order. Password-protected or encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. Bookmarks, document-level form data and accessibility tags are not carried into the new files. Without a file, the calculator below plans how a document of a given length would be divided.

With the default inputs, the pdf files created is 3. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

How to use the pdf splitter

  1. 1Choose a PDF (or drop it on the page) — the page count fills in automatically.
  2. 2Pick how to split: custom ranges, extract, delete, every N pages or single pages.
  3. 3Type the page ranges, for example 1-3, 5, 8-end.
  4. 4Check the list of output files and their pages.
  5. 5Download each PDF or all of them as a ZIP.

Formula and method

files = ⌈total ÷ N⌉ (every N pages); pages kept = total − deleted (delete mode)

The splitter turns your instructions into a list of output files and the pages each contains. "1-3, 5, 8-end" means pages 1 to 3, page 5 and page 8 to the last page; a range written backwards (9-6) keeps the reversed order, and "odd" or "even" select alternate pages. Splitting every N pages produces ⌈total ÷ N⌉ files, the last one holding the remainder.

To build each file, the tool reads the PDF’s cross-reference table (including compressed object streams), walks the page tree, and copies each chosen page together with every object it references — content streams, fonts, images and annotations — into a fresh PDF with a new page tree. Inherited attributes such as page size and resources are copied onto the page so it renders exactly as before.

total
Number of pages in the source PDF
N
Pages per file in “every N pages” mode

Worked examples

Three ranges from a 12-page report

"1-3, 5, 8-end" on a 12-page PDF makes three files: pages 1–3, page 5 alone, and pages 8 to 12 ("end" means the last page). Together they contain 3 + 1 + 5 = 9 pages.

Split a 47-page scan every 10 pages

Splitting 47 pages into chunks of 10 gives ⌈47 ÷ 10⌉ = 5 files: four with 10 pages and a last one with the remaining 7.

Delete pages 2 and 4–6

Deleting page 2 and pages 4 to 6 removes 4 of the 12 pages, so the edited PDF keeps 12 − 4 = 8 pages: 1, 3 and 7 to 12.

Extract the odd pages of a double-sided scan

The keyword "odd" selects pages 1, 3, 5 … 19 — half of the 20 pages — into one new PDF, a quick way to separate the fronts of a duplex scan.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a PDF into separate pages?+

Choose your PDF, select “Every page as its own PDF” and download the files individually or as a ZIP. Each page becomes a separate PDF named with its page number.

Is it safe to split a PDF online here?+

Yes. The PDF is read and split by JavaScript running in your browser; the file is never uploaded to a server. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded.

Will splitting reduce quality?+

No. Pages are copied object by object — text, fonts, vector graphics and images are not re-rendered or recompressed, so the output is identical and text remains selectable and searchable.

Why can’t I split my PDF?+

Encrypted or password-protected PDFs cannot be split until the protection is removed, and severely damaged files may not be readable. Try re-saving the document with “Print to PDF” and splitting that copy.

How do I extract specific pages from a PDF?+

Select “Extract pages into one PDF” and list the pages, for example 2, 5-7, 10. The new PDF contains them in the order you typed, so 7-5 would put them in reverse order.

Are bookmarks and form fields kept?+

Page content, images, links between kept pages and visible form-field appearances are kept. Document-level items — bookmarks, the interactive form structure, attachments and accessibility tags — are not copied to the split files.
