About the PDF Merger
This PDF merger joins several PDF files into a single document. Add your files, put them in order with the arrow buttons, and optionally type a page range for each one — 1-3, 7 to take some pages, 5-1 to reverse them, or 2-last to drop a cover page. Click Merge and the combined PDF downloads straight away. It is handy for assembling a contract with its signed pages, combining monthly statements for a loan application, or joining scanned chapters.
Merging happens entirely in your browser: each file is parsed locally, the selected pages and everything they use — fonts, images, links — are copied into a new PDF, and nothing is sent to a server. Text stays selectable and searchable and images keep their original quality because page content is copied, not re-rendered. Modern PDFs with compressed object streams are supported.
Password-protected or encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. Bookmarks (outlines), fillable form fields and attachments are not carried into the merged file. The planner below the merger shows how your page ranges will be assembled before you merge.
With the default inputs, the pages in merged pdf is 12. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.
How to use the pdf merger
- 1Click Add PDFs (or drop files) and select the PDFs to combine.
- 2Order the files with the up and down arrows.
- 3Optionally type a page range for any file, e.g. 1-3, 7 or 5-1.
- 4Click Merge PDFs and save the downloaded file.
Formula and method
Each file contributes the pages named in its range, in exactly the order written: “1-3, 7” gives pages 1, 2, 3 and 7; “5-1” gives 5, 4, 3, 2, 1; “3-” or “3-last” runs from page 3 to the end; a blank range takes every page. Files are appended one after another, so a file’s pages occupy the next block of page numbers in the merged PDF.
To merge, the tool reads each PDF’s cross-reference table (or compressed cross-reference stream), walks its page tree, and copies each selected page together with every object it references — content streams, fonts, images, annotations — giving them new object numbers so files cannot collide. Inherited page attributes such as MediaBox and Resources are copied onto each page, and a new page tree and catalog are written.
Worked examples
Contract, signature page and part of an appendix
All 6 contract pages come first, then the single signature page as page 7. From the appendix only pages 1–4 and 9 are taken (5 pages), which become pages 8–12 — 6 + 1 + 5 = 12 pages in total.
Reverse a back-to-front scan
Writing 5-1 takes the scan’s pages in reverse, fixing a stack that was fed last page first. “2-” takes cover.pdf from page 2 to the end, which is just page 2, so the merged file has 5 + 1 = 6 pages.
A range outside the file
report.pdf only has 8 pages, so 2-12 is rejected and the file is left out of the plan until the range is fixed. notes.pdf contributes all 3 of its pages.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to merge confidential PDFs here?+
Yes. The files are read and merged by JavaScript running in your browser and are never uploaded. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the merger keeps working.
Will merging reduce the quality of my PDF?+
No. Pages are copied object by object, so text stays as real, searchable text and images keep their original resolution and compression. The merged file is usually about the size of the inputs combined.
Why does a PDF fail to merge?+
The most common reason is encryption: password-protected PDFs, and some that only restrict printing or editing, are encrypted and must be unlocked in a PDF reader first. Badly damaged files are repaired when possible, but some cannot be read.
Are bookmarks and form fields kept?+
Page content, images, fonts and links are kept. Bookmarks (the outline panel), fillable form fields, attachments and document-level scripts are not carried over, because they belong to the whole original document rather than to individual pages.
How do I take only some pages from a file?+
Type a range next to the file: 1-3, 7 for pages 1 to 3 and 7; 4- or 4-last for page 4 to the end; 6-1 to reverse. Leave it blank to include every page. You can repeat a page, for example 1, 1.
