Where your charges go

About the Brokerage Calculator

Every trade on an Indian exchange carries several charges on top of brokerage: Securities Transaction Tax (STT), exchange transaction charges, SEBI turnover fees, stamp duty, 18% GST and, for delivery sales, a depository (DP) charge. This brokerage calculator adds them all up for equity delivery, intraday, futures and options trades on NSE, and shows your net profit or loss and the price move you need just to break even.

It is built for active traders who want to know how much of a small intraday gain survives charges, and for investors comparing a discount broker with a percentage-based plan. The default “discount broker” plan matches the common structure of free equity delivery, 0.03% or ₹20 per executed order (whichever is lower) for intraday and futures, and a flat ₹20 per order for options. Choose “custom” to enter your broker’s own percentage and cap.

Statutory rates reflect FY 2026-27: the higher STT on futures (0.05%) and options (0.15% of premium on the sell side) that applies from 1 April 2026, and the NSE transaction charges in force since 1 March 2026. For options, enter the premium as the buy and sell price. The brokerage plan and the ₹15.34 DP charge are typical discount-broker figures, not statutory ones, so check your own broker’s rates. Brokers round some charges slightly differently, so your contract note may differ by a rupee or two.

With the default inputs, the total charges is ₹82.97. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

How to use the brokerage calculator

  1. 1Choose the segment: intraday, delivery, futures or options.
  2. 2Enter the buy price, sell price and total quantity (for options, the premium).
  3. 3Pick the discount-broker plan or enter your broker’s custom percentage and cap.
  4. 4Read the total charges, net P&L and the points needed to break even.

Formula and method

Total = Brokerage + STT + Exchange + SEBI + Stamp + 18% × (Brokerage + Exchange + SEBI) + DP

Turnover is buy value + sell value. Brokerage is charged per executed order under your plan. STT is 0.1% on both buy and sell for delivery, 0.025% on the sell side for intraday, 0.05% on the sell side for futures and 0.15% of the sell-side premium for options. NSE transaction charges (from 1 March 2026) are 0.0030699% of turnover for equity, 0.0018299% for futures and 0.0355299% of premium turnover for options. SEBI charges ₹10 per crore of turnover.

Stamp duty is paid on the buy side only: 0.015% for delivery, 0.003% for intraday and options, and 0.002% for futures. GST at 18% applies to brokerage, exchange charges and the SEBI fee — not to STT or stamp duty. A DP charge applies once when you sell delivery holdings. Break-even points are total charges ÷ quantity.

Worked examples

Intraday: 100 shares bought at ₹1,000, sold at ₹1,010

Turnover is ₹2,01,000. Brokerage hits the ₹20 cap on each leg (₹40), STT is 0.025% of the ₹1,01,000 sell value (₹25.25), exchange charges of 0.0030699% come to ₹6.17, stamp duty ₹3, and GST on brokerage + exchange + SEBI adds ₹8.35. Total charges are about ₹82.97, leaving ₹917.03 of the ₹1,000 gross profit.

Delivery: 200 shares from ₹500 to ₹550

Delivery brokerage is free on the discount plan, but STT of 0.1% on both sides of ₹2,10,000 turnover is ₹210. Stamp duty of 0.015% on the ₹1,00,000 purchase adds ₹15, exchange charges ₹6.45 and the DP charge ₹15.34; with the SEBI fee and GST, total charges are about ₹248.20.

Options: 300 units, premium ₹120 to ₹150

Two option orders cost ₹20 each. STT is 0.15% of the ₹45,000 sell premium (₹67.50) and exchange charges are 0.0355299% of ₹81,000 premium turnover (₹28.78). With ₹12.39 GST and ₹1.08 stamp duty, total charges are about ₹149.84.

Futures: 75 units from 24,000 to 24,100

On ₹36 lakh of turnover, STT at 0.05% of the ₹18.08 lakh sell value is ₹903.75 — most of the ₹1,069 total, alongside ₹66.01 of exchange charges and ₹36 of stamp duty. A 100-point gain of ₹7,500 nets about ₹6,431.

Frequently asked questions

What charges are levied on an intraday trade in India?+

Brokerage, STT at 0.025% on the sell side, NSE transaction charges, the SEBI turnover fee of ₹10 per crore, stamp duty of 0.003% on the buy side, and 18% GST on brokerage plus exchange and SEBI charges.

What is the STT on futures and options from April 2026?+

From 1 April 2026, STT on futures is 0.05% of the sell-side value (up from 0.02%) and on options 0.15% of the sell-side premium (up from 0.1%). Check your broker’s contract note if rates change again.

Why do I pay charges even with zero brokerage on delivery?+

Zero brokerage only removes the broker’s fee. Statutory charges — STT at 0.1% on both buy and sell, stamp duty, exchange and SEBI fees, GST — and the depository DP charge on selling still apply.

What is a DP charge?+

A depository participant (DP) charge is levied by CDSL or NSDL and your broker each time shares are debited from your demat account when you sell delivery holdings. It is a flat amount per scrip per day, typically around ₹13–₹20 including GST.

How are option charges calculated?+

For options, STT, exchange charges and stamp duty are calculated on the premium value (premium × quantity), not on the underlying contract value. Discount brokers usually charge a flat ₹20 per executed order.
