About the GST Calculator

This GST calculator adds goods and services tax to a net price or extracts the GST already included in a gross price. Pick a preset rate — India’s 5%, 18% or 40% slabs, Australia’s 10%, New Zealand’s 15%, Canada’s 5% GST or 13–15% HST, Singapore’s 9% — or type any custom rate, and it returns the net amount, the tax and the GST-inclusive total.

It is built for shop owners pricing products, freelancers raising invoices, accountants checking bills and shoppers who want to know how much tax is inside a receipt. For Indian rates it also splits the tax into CGST and SGST for intra-state supplies (half each); for inter-state supplies the full amount is charged as IGST.

India’s rates reflect the GST rate rationalisation that took effect on 22 September 2025, which replaced most 12% and 28% slabs with the 5% and 18% rates and introduced a 40% rate for luxury and sin goods. Tobacco products such as cigarettes and beedi were left on their earlier rates and compensation cess until a date to be notified, and rates for specific goods vary, so check the official schedule for your product; the custom option covers any rate not listed. Nova Scotia’s HST fell from 15% to 14% on 1 April 2025, and amounts are shown in the currency of the country you pick.

With the default inputs, the gst amount is 180.00. Change any value above to recalculate instantly.

How to use the gst calculator

  1. 1Choose whether to add GST or remove it from an inclusive price.
  2. 2Enter the amount.
  3. 3Pick your country’s GST rate, or choose Custom and type the rate.
  4. 4Read the GST amount, net price and total; Indian rates also show the CGST/SGST split.

Formula and method

Add: GST = Net × r, Total = Net × (1 + r); Remove: Net = Total ÷ (1 + r), GST = Total × r ÷ (1 + r)

To add GST, multiply the net price by the rate (as a decimal) to get the tax, and add it to the net price. To remove GST from a tax-inclusive price, divide the total by one plus the rate to get the net price; the GST is the difference. At 10% that means GST is one-eleventh of the total, and at 18% it is 18/118 of the total.

In India, GST on a supply within the same state is split equally between central GST (CGST) and state or union territory GST (SGST/UTGST); inter-state supplies attract integrated GST (IGST) at the full rate. The calculator rounds only for display, so totals may differ by a paisa or cent from invoices that round each line.

Worked examples

Add 18% GST to ₹1,000

18% of ₹1,000 is ₹180, so the invoice total is ₹1,180. For a sale within one state, that is ₹90 CGST and ₹90 SGST.

Remove Australian GST from a $110 receipt

At 10%, GST is one-eleventh of the inclusive price: $110 ÷ 1.1 = $100 net, so the receipt includes $10 of GST.

Ontario HST on a $2,500 invoice

Ontario’s 13% HST on $2,500 is $325, bringing the invoice total to $2,825.

Custom 12% rate removed from 5,600

Dividing 5,600 by 1.12 gives a net price of 5,000, so 600 of the total is GST.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate GST from a total amount?+

Divide the GST-inclusive total by (1 + rate). The result is the net price and the difference is the GST. For 18%, GST = total × 18 ÷ 118; for 10%, GST = total ÷ 11.

What are the GST rates in India now?+

Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services fall into a 5% merit rate or an 18% standard rate, with a 40% rate for luxury and sin goods and special rates such as 3% for gold. Some items are exempt or zero-rated.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?+

For supplies within a state, GST is split equally into central GST (CGST) and state GST (SGST). For supplies between states or imports, the full rate is charged as integrated GST (IGST), which the centre collects and shares.

What is the GST rate in Australia and New Zealand?+

Australia charges 10% GST on most goods and services, with some items such as basic food and many health services GST-free. New Zealand charges 15% GST on almost all goods and services.

What is HST in Canada?+

HST is a harmonized sales tax combining the 5% federal GST with a provincial portion. It is 13% in Ontario, 14% in Nova Scotia and 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island.
